Large-size ZKL thrust spherical roller bearings for the energy sector

At the ZKL Brno manufacturing plant, eight 294/850EM NF thrust spherical roller bearings were produced for the energy industry. This bearing size will be installed in the air pre-heater of a thermal power plant.

This is a repeat order for our long-term partner – a key player in the energy sector in Asia. In previous years, other sizes from our large-size thrust bearing portfolio were also manufactured for them, including the largest 294/950EM NF thrust bearing. This long-term collaboration demonstrates the trust in ZKL’s technical expertise and the reliability of its solutions.

Demanding conditions in air pre-heaters
The regenerative heat exchanger of a thermal power plant is used to preheat air by utilizing waste heat. Thanks to air pre-heaters, power plants achieve higher efficiency and improved performance.

However, the operating conditions for these units are extremely demanding. Bearings are exposed to:
•   high axial loads at low speeds,
•   a combination of axial and radial forces,
•   significant temperature fluctuations (short-term up to 200 °C),
•   risks of corrosion and abrasion.

Solution: Series 294 in New Force standard
Thrust spherical roller bearings are designed to carry very high axial loads (in one direction) while simultaneously handling radial forces. Bearings of the 294 series are also capable of compensating misalignment up to 3°, allowing for correction of assembly inaccuracies and ensuring proper operation under all load conditions.

The 294/850EM NF bearings were manufactured in the New Force standard, which features optimized internal geometry. The benefits include:
